Board members and community speakers paid tribute to outgoing director Alyssa Anderson Pearson, praising her eight years of service, role in retaining the superintendent and defending the district during politically contentious episodes.
The Clover Park School District board on Dec. 8 publicly thanked outgoing board director Alyssa Anderson Pearson for eight years of service and presented her with a commemorative gavel recognizing her leadership from December 2017 through December 2025.
Alyssa Anderson Pearson, who addressed the meeting with family and colleagues present, recalled hiring and supporting the district superintendent and described the job as a service to her hometown. "I refused to let a political party take over our schools," she said, citing efforts during the pandemic and subsequent political conflicts that tested the board.
Family members and longtime community supporters spoke afterward. Don Anderson, identified as Pearson's father, said her leadership helped the district retain its superintendent and earn district recognition. "You made Ginger and me proud," he told her. Retired teacher Sherry Arkell praised Pearson's ethics and resilience, saying that "politically motivated attacks on our employees and board members increased" in 2021 and are "a matter of public record, well documented." Arkell urged the board to continue prioritizing students and civility.
Several relatives and community members thanked Pearson for her service and noted the district's progress on metrics such as graduation rates; one family member cited graduation-rate growth "from 79 percent" in 2019 to "over 91 percent" at present.
The board then proceeded with routine business and officer elections before adjourning later in the evening.
