Norman — Mayor Holman proclaimed October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Norman at the Oct. 14 city council meeting. A representative of the Women's Resource Center accepted the proclamation and urged continued community support for survivors.
The proclamation noted domestic violence affects people of all ages and backgrounds and called attention to local and national support services, including Mary Abbott Children's House and the state 211 helpline. The mayor asked Jody Stewart and Stephanie Pennant to join him at the podium for the presentation.
"This proclamation is more than a formality. It's a powerful reminder that we stand together in acknowledging the devastating impact of domestic violence and our collective responsibility to address it," said a Women's Resource Center representative who accepted the proclamation on behalf of the organization. The representative thanked Norman Police Department and other local agencies for partnership in serving survivors.
The council voted unanimously to acknowledge receipt of the proclamation during the meeting.
