School board approves amendment to middle school architect contract; public open house set for Nov. 13

The Buckeye Valley Board of Education voted to approve an amendment to its contract with Shore Architect Inc. for design and related construction administration services for the Buckeye Valley Middle School construction project.
Board members approved the amendment after staff described design changes made when newly hired Mr. Reeder reviewed arrival and dismissal traffic at the middle school. Reeder flagged safety concerns with bus and parent drop-off circulation, and staff asked the architect to revise the plans to improve traffic flow. The changes required additional work by the architect and multiple subcontractors — including surveying and soil borings — but, according to the board, the overall contract dollar amount did not increase because internal budget lines were adjusted.
Superintendent/administrator Kelly said the revisions triggered follow-on work by subcontractors and created a “trickle effect” of adjustments needed to implement the revised footprint. Kelly told the board the changes were made to produce a safer, more functional design for bus and parent drop-off.
Board members asked about timing and public information. Kelly said final plans will be delivered to the board on Nov. 13 and that the district and its builder, Summit Builders, plan a public open house that day to show 3-D models and gather community input.
The board approved the motion to amend the architect contract in a roll call vote.
