Board adopts revised ambulance fee schedule to better cover ALS costs

The Village of Waukesha board adopted a revised fee schedule for ambulance services intended to help the village recover costs associated with providing advanced life support.
The fire chief presented a proposed revision to Appendix A (the ambulance fee schedule) and explained the goal is to move charges closer to county comparables and to better recoup costs for consumables and ALS service. The packet included a fee schedule showing the village’s current charges and the proposed increases; a summary compared the village’s proposed fees with averages among Wisconsin agencies.
Trustees asked for documentation to justify the proposed numbers in case of challenge; one trustee recommended collecting actual cost samples or a short study to support the schedule. The chief said the intent is not to profit but to recover the cost of equipment and supplies used on calls.
A trustee moved to adopt the revised Appendix A ambulance fee schedule; the motion passed unanimously. Trustees directed staff to forward the updated schedule to the village’s EMS billing provider. The chief said the schedule will take effect “as soon as we get it over there.”
