Board grants final extension to Barton property cleanup to Dec. 11 after update from owner

The Village of Waukesha board voted to give the Barton family an additional extension to bring their property on Genesee Road into compliance.
James Barton and Laurie Barton told the board they have removed several outbuildings and used dumpsters and neighbor assistance to remove debris but still need time to clear accumulated lumber, roofing and other material from buildings that had stood for decades. Laurie Barton said the work has been “emotionally difficult” for the family; she described four generations on the farm and said the family is continuing cleanup despite illness and scheduling constraints.
Board members reviewed recent inspection photos and discussed earlier extensions. A trustee noted the Bartons had previously received multiple extensions — including a six‑month extension earlier in the year — and emphasized that further leniency should not be expected. The board also reminded the Bartons to coordinate with Jared, the village building/billing inspector, who must confirm compliance.
After discussion a trustee moved to extend the compliance deadline to the plan commission meeting on December 11; the motion carried and the board recorded the extension. Trustees advised the Bartons that citations and daily fines would begin if they failed to meet the new deadline.
The board instructed the Bartons to work with Jared and to provide documentation of debris removal and repairs before the December meeting. No citation was issued at the meeting.
