Kissimmee adopts 2025–26 legislative priorities, adds health‑licensure concern after public comment

The Kissimmee City Commission on Oct. 7 adopted its 2025–26 legislative priorities to guide state and federal advocacy before the January 2026 session. Staff recommended appropriations and advocacy items intended to address infrastructure, public safety and economic development needs.
Notable appropriations and priorities highlighted by the city manager included a $750,000 request to address a funding gap for construction of a police evidence room tied to the police headquarters expansion; funding to rebuild the Berlinski Community Center; and a request seeking half of the cost for North Kissimmee stormwater improvements (staff said the total project cost exceeds $1 million). The manager also urged the board to place Gateway Airpark infrastructure and FAA/FDOT aviation funding on the legislative radar.
During public comments earlier in the meeting, local medical providers warned that a state-level change to the 'areas of critical need' licensure designation could remove expedited licensing pathways and limit clinicians practicing in Osceola County. Commissioners agreed that staff and the city’s lobbying partners should explore adding that licensure protection to Kissimmee’s legislative priorities and work with the city’s lobbyists to craft appropriate language.
Commissioners approved the priority list by motion and asked staff to work with existing lobbying partners and the county where appropriate.
