The Orangeville City Council voted Oct. 9 to ratify a contract to redevelop the city’s website at an initial cost of $6,600 and monthly hosting of $150.
Amanda told the council staff had identified a vendor that specializes in government websites and that the city had to move to a .gov domain, which the prior vendor did not support. "We did this all of a sudden decide we wanted a new brand new website ... the federal government mandated that we switch to a .gov domain," Councilmember Kevin said, describing technical constraints that forced the change and intermittent downtime the city experienced with the prior host.
Council moved to ratify the cost and after a second the motion passed with recorded ayes and no opposition. Staff said the upfront cost would get the new site developed and launched, with ongoing monthly maintenance fees thereafter. The city expects improved functionality, including options for mass text alerts and other government‑oriented features the prior vendor did not adequately support.
Council did not provide line‑item funding details during the meeting; staff said the arrangement would ultimately save money and asked for the council’s ratification to proceed.
