A facilities presenter reviewed this summer's work: secure vestibule installations (Lincoln about 75% complete), replacement of air handlers and boilers at Lincoln, cubby and library renovations, and pending glass installation for transaction windows and vestibules. The presenter said many school-wide projects will continue next summer, including track work and vestibule and mechanical upgrades at the high school and corridor/ceiling/lighting and transformer work at Saginaw.
On electrification, staff said the district is moving forward with a fleet electrification plan and a study of site conditions for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure; an on-site inspection was scheduled for the 30th at 9:00 a.m. The presentation said an external firm was preparing an alternative analysis for the Buchanan building (sometimes transcribed as Buchendahl) to identify potential reuse or a new owner, and the district planned a request for proposals to seek a buyer rather than demolishing the property.
Board members asked whether parking configuration and charger locations would change; staff said the number of buses likely would not change but charger locations depend on the infrastructure design. The presenter also said a third-party incentive program (noted as paying 75% of a study cost in the presentation) is moving the project forward.
The board approved a resolution determining the proposed building and site improvements to be a Type II action under the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) and therefore not requiring further environmental review; the motion passed by voice vote.
Clarifying details: the presenter provided tentative shipping dates for glass used in vestibules (July 17, July 31, Aug. 9 and Sept. 4 shipments referenced) and noted school opening on Sept. 4 was met after summer work. The district said it would refine placement of chargers once the design and site analysis are complete and that a public vote on borrowing or capital plans related to fleet electrification may be revisited depending on timing of bonding and incentives.
