The McKeesport Area School District honored eighth-grader Evan Durst for selection to the U.S. Soccer Olympic Development Program and recognized the boys golf team for a school-record 11 regular-season wins; the district also thanked retiring coach Joe Bobo for 12 seasons.
The McKeesport Area School District on Oct. 9 recognized eighth-grader Evan Durst after his selection to the U.S. Soccer Olympic Development Program and celebrated the boys golf team’s most successful regular season in school history.
Superintendent (name recorded in the transcript) told the board that Durst was chosen for the Olympic Development Program, a multi-stage talent pathway that begins with local tryouts, advances through regional tournaments and can lead to a national pool. “You’ve done a great job,” the superintendent said, offering congratulations on behalf of the district.
The board also saluted the golf team after an 11–6 season, described in the meeting as the most regular-season wins the school has recorded. The team reached postseason play and sent six players to the stated WVIO qualifiers. Coaches and board members singled out seniors and team captain Brody Menard during remarks and thanked families for supporting the season.
Coach Joe Bobo, who the district said is retiring after 12 seasons, was presented with a certificate and recognition for his long service. Board members praised his work bringing students together and building the program.
The recognition items were part of a longer celebration of student achievement and staff service; board members noted upcoming athletic events and encouraged community attendance at contest dates listed by district staff.
The board moved on from the recognitions to routine business and committee reports after the presentation.
