Florence mayor shares tax, event and service updates; parks lighting plan noted

Mayor Julia Abishon told the caucus that Florence residents should have received tax bills noting a 3% reduction in the real-estate property tax rate this year and that the Boone County Sheriff's Office has personnel at the finance counter to accept county property taxes.
Abishon listed upcoming city services and events: city offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 13 for Columbus Day; fall cleanup is scheduled Oct. 13–19 with drop-off at the public services maintenance facility (7850 Tanners Lane) and proof of residency required; the annual leaf-collection program runs Oct. 20 through Dec. 18; Halloween Fest will be held Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas More Stadium, home of the Florence Y—alls; a household hazardous-waste collection event is scheduled Nov. 1 (residents of Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties only); and a Veterans Day program will be Nov. 8.
Council member Leslie Chambers raised concerns about flickering lights at the skate park. Eric (public services) said sensors have been ordered, timers were reset to turn lights on at 6 p.m., and that skate-park lighting design and maintenance will be addressed in a later phase of park upgrades while current efforts focus on other capital projects.
The police department noted a donation of a protective vest for the department canine Ajax from the nonprofit Vested Nurses and Canines and directed attendees to the department Facebook page for photos.
