The Military Affairs Advisory Board requested $5,000 for a Veterans Family Day and Health Fair on Nov. 2; the council approved the $5,000 and asked the board to retain primary responsibility for organizing the event.
The City of Doral will provide $5,000 to support a Military & Veterans Family Day and Health Fair after the Military Affairs Advisory Board presented an event plan to the council on Oct. 8.
William (Bill) Watts, chair of the Doral Military Advisory Committee, told the council the board requests the use of Doral Glades Park and a $5,000 budget for food and services for the Nov. 2 event. "The military advisory board formally request a $5,000 budget for the use of food and services," Watts said.
Mayor Christie Fraga said she supported making the Veterans Family Day a signature city event and approved $5,000 so the board could proceed with planning. "Today, we'll go ahead and approve the $5,000 so that you can have the funds that you need to make sure that it goes out without a hitch," she said and asked the board to continue leading the event's organization.
The board also requested city assistance for outreach and listed potential in-kind support and sponsors; councilmembers urged the board to continue seeking private sponsorships to supplement the city contribution. The board plans to coordinate vendor and outreach logistics with the Miami VA hospital and VetInfo.
