Doral council backs one-year pilot to outsource farmers market at Central Park

The Doral City Council on Oct. 8 heard a recommendation from Parks & Recreation to pilot a weekly farmers market at Doral Central Park and accepted the plan for staff to move forward with vendor contracting and promotion.
Parks & Recreation staff said running an in-house market would be labor-intensive and the department solicited three vendors. "We have decided to outsource it...we reached out to 3 vendors...we have decided on a 1 year pilot program basis to go with [the vendor]...have the farmer's market at Doral Central Park, 9AM to 1PM on Saturdays, starting Jan. 10," Parks Director said.
Staff described a revenue-share arrangement: vendors will charge a per‑vendor fee and the city will collect 25% of that fee. The pilot is scheduled to run through March or April, with staff planning a year-end review and possible seasonal expansion in the fall if the market proves sustainable.
Councilmembers welcomed the proposal and asked for several weeks' notice ahead of the January start to allow community promotion and to maximize vendor recruitment. No formal council vote was required at the meeting; staff will return with contract details and a vendor agreement for final executive approval.
