District honors students who completed teen CERT training and restored fire‑safety robots

Steve Locke, building operations assistant principal at Joliet Central, introduced students who completed teen CERT training in partnership with the City of Joliet and the Joliet Fire Department; the roughly 30‑hour training covers PPE, disaster preparedness and basic medical operations and will be followed by an optional CPR class hosted at Fire Station 1.
Chris McGuffey, the district’s CTE curriculum director, described an electronics and robotics project in which students at Joliet West and Joliet Central refurbished two retired teaching robots, Freddie the fire truck and Andy the ambulance. McGuffey said the restored equipment represents about $20,000 of revitalized assets now available to the fire department for public‑education visits and parades.
Board members and the Joliet Fire Department thanked students and staff for the partnerships and the district presented certificates to participating students.
