District presents multilingual services update as part of Strategy 2.2

Medio Palasz, director of multilingual services, said the program is serving roughly 1,500 students, including about 167 newcomers who have entered the U.S. within the last three years and 253 dually identified students. The presentation highlighted curriculum redesign, a newcomer literacy course, continued SIOP professional learning, co‑teaching models, a year‑one cohort of CTE teachers pursuing ESL endorsements through the University of Saint Francis, and added instructional coaching and social‑worker support at West Campus.
Palasz emphasized placement criteria to ensure new arrivals are assigned to appropriate literacy and support services and noted family engagement events (Alianza de Padres) that aim to orient parents to district resources. The district said it will continue monitoring outcomes and building staff capacity to support multilingual learners.
Board members thanked staff and noted that adding coaching and social‑work capacity helps bridge language and access gaps for families.
