The Joliet Township High School District 204 Board of Education on Monday reviewed a package of recommendations from the district’s Parent‑Teacher Advisory Committee aimed at student safety, classroom focus and consistent discipline procedures.
Anna Carbine, a dean at Joliet West and a PTAC presenter, described a proposed electronics policy that would prohibit the use, possession or wearing of smart/AI glasses on district property and remove cell phones from academic areas during class time. “We want cell phones put away to eliminate those distractions, keep the students focused, hopefully improve grades, support mental health,” Carbine said. The committee recommended that phones be allowed only at lunch and in hallways, with medical and safety exceptions written into procedures.
