Summary
Council approved an interlocal agreement letting Fort Worth temporarily use and repair a portion of **** Price Road while Fort Worth repairs its Salt Road bridge. Council discussed reconstruction costs and a discrepancy in figures ($900,000 referenced by staff vs. $600,000 in the draft ILA) and urged resident notification and traffic controls.
The Kennedale City Council on Jan. 20 approved an interlocal agreement (ILA) with the City of Fort Worth to allow Fort Worth temporary use of a segment of **** Price Road while Fort Worth completes repairs to a damaged bridge on Salt Road used for landfill access.
City staff said Fort Worth asked to use the Kennedale segment for approximately three months while repairs to the Salt Road entry are completed. The ILA calls for Fort Worth to repair and reconstruct the requested Price Road segment to a standard able to handle heavy vehicles; staff characterized the reconstruction as a significant pavement and base upgrade.
During discussion councilmembers asked about cost, schedule and resident impacts. The city manager initially referenced a reconstruction calculation of roughly $900,000 for Fort Worth to bring the segment up to heavy‑truck standards. Later in the meeting several councilmembers and staff noted the redline ILA text they were reviewing included a $600,000 figure, and they asked city staff to confirm the correct capped amount in the written ILA.
Council members sought assurances on traffic control and resident notification. Staff said Fort Worth would be responsible for a traffic‑control plan during the construction period and that Fort Worth anticipates completing its work in its 2027 budget cycle; council members pressed for clearer timing and expressed concern about a gap between Fort Worth’s temporary use and its later reconstruction commitments.
After discussion the council voted unanimously to approve the ILA. Staff and the city attorney advised that the draft could be redlined or clarified with the exact cost cap and schedule language before final execution and that code enforcement and coordination with law enforcement would be used to address neighborhood impacts during the period of Fort Worth’s use.
Council members said the ILA provides an opportunity to secure reconstruction of a badly damaged segment of Price Road but also stressed the need for guardrails, traffic control and clear timelines so residents are not left with long‑term impacts while Fort Worth completes its internal budgeting process.
