Brown Deer trustees rescind 1950s plat restriction that limited exterior siding materials

A staff presentation explained residents raised the issue after modern, durable siding materials became common. Staff recommended rescinding the specific language in section 7(c) of the historic plat agreement so that homeowners could use alternatives such as vinyl or cement board siding while remaining subject to village codes and any required architectural review.
Trustee discussion focused on maintaining other plat protections while giving property owners more flexibility. A roll-call vote recorded ayes from Trustees Johnson, Thompson, Owens, Woods and Booker; the motion carried and the narrow provision was rescinded while all other plat provisions remain in effect.
Because the change affects only the cited text in the 1950s agreement, staff said other subdivision standards and codes continue to regulate exterior appearance and safety.
