At its Jan. 20 meeting, the Oak Park City Council voted on a series of routine and substantive items. The following actions were recorded:
- Consent agenda: Council approved routine items (minutes, procurement authorizations, maintenance bid requests, tree survey invoice, minutes and license renewals) by unanimous voice vote.
- Invoice approval (Item 8A): Council approved payment of an invoice from Garr and Luca Miller, PC for legal services in the amount of $15,172.81 on a roll-call vote (yes votes recorded by council members on the transcript).
- Ordinance adoption (Item 9): The council adopted the second reading of a zoning map amendment to change 13630 Balfour from R1 (single-family) to R2 (two-family) to increase parking for the school on the corner of Coolidge and Balfour. The ordinance passed unanimously on a roll-call vote.
- Award of professional services (Item 11b1): Council awarded Newman Smith Architecture a professional services contract for the community center, not to exceed $2,061,700; the contract award was approved on a unanimous roll-call vote (see article on the award for details).
- Event Hub payment application #7 (Item 11b2): Council approved payment application number 7 for the Event Hub project in the amount of $449,283.20 (change order reported as $0); staff said the project is approximately 50% complete.
- Board of Review compensation and meeting dates (Item 11a1): Council approved retaining the Board of Review compensation at $1.20 for a full day and $0.60 for a half day and scheduled an additional appeals date (Tuesday, March 10) as required by the city charter.
- Poverty exemption income guidelines (Item 11a2): Council approved using federal poverty guidelines from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for city poverty exemption applications.
- Cryptocurrency ATM regulation (Item 10): The council heard a presentation from City Attorney Courtney Krause and, after discussion, moved to table further action on regulating cryptocurrency ATM machines pending additional study.
