Walnut Creek council allocates $1.75 million in community-benefit funds for Ignacio Valley Road improvements

The Walnut Creek City Council voted to appropriate and transfer $1,750,000 in community-benefit funds from The Glen at Heather Farm project to the capital budget for Ignacio Valley Road traffic-signal and safety improvements.
City Engineer Madar Bormann said the funds will be applied to four intersections along Ignacio Valley Road: Marchbanks & Kinross (a local access concern where Kinross has a private portion), Marchbanks & Ignacio/Tampico, Kinross/La Casa Villa at Ignacio, and San Carlos & Ignacio. Bormann said the scope includes corridor-level signal operational improvements and localized safety treatments for side streets; at Marchbanks & Kinross staff are evaluating a traffic-calming or small roundabout treatment to deter cut-through traffic into the new development.
Council members noted the funding was negotiated as part of the developer conveyance and targeted to these intersections rather than being discretionary community-benefit money. Design work is expected to begin within six to nine months, and construction would follow; staff said it may phase the Kinross/Marchbanks physical improvements separately from corridor signal work. Council approved the appropriation by roll call.
