Veolia reports strong 2025 performance; nitrogen levels below target and zero discharges

Trevor Stiprock, project leader for Veolia in Norwalk, told the Water Pollution Control Authority on Jan. 20 that December operations were steady and the company’s year-long performance met key environmental and safety benchmarks.
Stiprock reported December activity including 0.5 miles of CCTV inspection, 0.5 miles of sewer cleaning, five manhole inspections, 2.6 miles of SLRAT work, 0.61 miles of hot-list cleaning, and 18 service calls. Veolia’s industrial pretreatment program conducted 41 inspections in the month.
On treatment performance, Stiprock said the plant’s nitrogen load for December averaged 584 pounds per day against a target of 718 pounds per day; for the full year of 2025 the facility averaged 569 pounds per day. "Anything below that is a plus," he said. He also reported zero discharges for 2025 and an average flow of about 10.8 million gallons per day.
On maintenance, Veolia installed a rebuilt rotor differential on the centrifuge that has operated without issue for several weeks, and staff completed limited repairs to final settling tank No. 3, which is again operational. The maintenance team completed 4,180 work orders in 2025 and recorded zero recordable safety incidents for the year.
The presentation emphasized standard regulatory compliance: monthly DMR/MOR/ATMR and NAR reports were submitted to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for December. Stiprock closed by inviting questions and noting the Veolia team available to support upcoming capital projects and operations.
The WPCA chair encouraged new members to tour the facility to better understand operational detail and constraints before decisions on rates or capital scheduling.
The matter remains in reporting and informational status; no formal action on operations was taken at the meeting.
