Wyndham Hills resident urges town action on irrigation diversion; staff outlines temporary pumping option

A Wyndham Hills resident, Mike Sims, told trustees Feb. 11 that his neighborhood urgently needs a diversion/check structure in the local ditch system before an April 1 cutoff to capture irrigation water and reduce outdoor use. "We probably used last year... 22,000,000 gallons of water and that's about $263,000 that we spent on water alone," Sims said, urging the town to help the community meet the April timeline.
Town staff member Sarah updated the board that the ditch company was unlikely to approve construction of a permanent structure in the available timeframe but was willing to consider temporary pumping into an on-site structure for this irrigation season. Sarah said Northern Water is applying for the necessary permit on the town’s behalf and that permitting would still take multiple weeks; staff worried the work might not be possible before April 1.
Sarah also said the ditch company still needs to coordinate terms with the developer, and staff will follow up with the ditch company and the developer. Trustees asked for a clear timeline and a communications summary for Wyndham Hill residents so they understand what the town can and cannot do.
