Commissioners authorize $31,419 engine rebuild for county Peterbilt semi

Franklin County commissioners authorized repair work Jan. 21 to keep a 2006 Peterbilt semi in service, approving an in-frame rebuild bid of $31,419.
Staff described the vehicle as one of the county's older belly-dump semis used on-site for hauling and equipment moves. "It's got around approximately 475,000 miles on it," a fleet presenter said, and the truck is showing signs of engine wear and "losing power." The county solicited three bids and recommended awarding the work to the lowest bidder.
Kirk, a county staff member, explained the warranty included with the recommended bid: "Anything that is replaced when they rebuild the engine... will have a 4 year warranty," he said, listing remanufactured heads, injectors and new turbos as included repairs.
The board moved and approved the authorization to proceed; staff will administer the procurement and warranty oversight through county fleet maintenance procedures.
