Council adopts ordinance adding Historic Preservation Commission duties to municipal code

The Dallas City Council on Nov. 3 adopted Ordinance No. 19 17 (second reading), adding sections 2.61 through 2.63 to the Dallas Municipal Code to set out the responsibilities of the Historic Preservation Commission.
City staff explained the measure transfers provisions previously located in the development code into the municipal code to align the commission’s provisions with other advisory committees. Council took a roll-call vote and the ordinance passed 7–0.
No councilor requested further amendment during the second reading and staff indicated the change was primarily administrative — reframing existing responsibilities rather than creating new commission powers.
The ordinance will be codified in the Dallas Municipal Code; any implementation steps or appointments to the commission were not addressed at this meeting and would follow existing municipal processes.
