The Ramsey County Commission authorized the chairman and auditor to sign a lease agreement with a local abstract office and accepted a recommendation that the county remove certain interior nonloadbearing walls requested by the tenant.
Staff said the abstract office requested minor interior alterations and proposed an extension of the Oct. 1 occupancy deadline to Nov. 1 because they received the lease offer late. County legal staff recommended maintaining the original Oct. 1 date because the abstract office had been on notice since May and had access to the space to take measurements. The commission agreed and approved the lease with the amendment that the county would remove the specified interior walls before occupancy.
Why it matters: the approval moves a courthouse office lease to execution and clarifies responsibilities for interior alterations and the move‑in schedule.
Commissioners asked staff to specify which interior walls would be removed; staff said the walls are nonloadbearing and that courthouse maintenance should be able to handle the work. The motion to authorize Chairman Gessner and the county auditor to sign the lease with the noted amendment passed by voice vote.
Staff will finalize the lease signature and coordinate the removal of the specified partitions so the tenant can occupy on the agreed date.
