City updates council on park bond projects; Little River trail grading underway

Parks and project staff updated the Woodstock City Council on bond‑funded park and trail work during the Aug. 18 work session.
Mr. Borden said grading for the Little River trail corridor had begun and that inspectors coordinated work for erosion control and staking; he said the contractor expected to begin some concrete work in the coming weeks and that the city hopes to complete the Little River Park Trail Connector next summer if drawings and in‑house construction scheduling proceed as planned.
Borden described design progress on the Roots Creek Trail, reporting that Falcon Design has submitted preliminary work that addresses a direct connection from the trail end to Springfield Park and includes bridge recommendations to cross the creek. Staff said they acquired the necessary right of way for the connection and expect the project engineering to move forward quickly once the bridge plan is finalized.
The Buckhead Trail Crossing had all bids rejected this spring; staff said they requested value‑engineering analyses from Falcon Design to identify alternate routes and cost savings and expected a recommendation in the coming weeks. Borden also reported progress on other connector segments that will tie new trail miles into Arnold Mill and surrounding neighborhoods.
What’s next: Staff will continue weekly coordination with contractors and designers, pursue value engineering for the Buckhead crossing and return with updated timelines and plans as design and permitting complete.
