Beaverton board hears early warnings on consolidation; superintendent says boundary changes unlikely before 2027

Superintendent Balderas told the Beaverton School District Board of Directors on Aug. 12 that the district's long-range facilities planning work will take months to years and that he does not expect the board to take action on boundary changes before 2027.

Balderas said staff and a long-range facilities planning committee are convening to review district facilities, enrollment patterns and program placement; any recommendations would come back to the board and the public for extensive community input. "I don't foresee any action by this board until possibly the '27," he said.

The superintendent framed the work as a lengthy process, noting declining enrollment and the need to assess where the district should be structurally. "This will take months to process," Balderas said, adding that the district aims to do the work "with community input" and to avoid rushed decisions.
