Staff presented three policies for board consideration: BBBA (board member qualifications), IGBHE (expanded options programs), and KK (visitors to district facilities). The policies were introduced for discussion and will return to the board for action at a future meeting.
Staff said BBBA contains pronoun alignment changes to gender-neutral language. The IGBHE draft reflects changes recommended by the Oregon School Boards Association (OSBA) to align with statutory changes and program requirements; staff agreed to double-check alignment around age limits (age 21) when board members raised questions. The KK policy was updated to remove outdated language about grandparents eating in cafeterias; staff said practice discouraged having non-students in elementary cafeterias because of disruption concerns.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the grandparents language and the relationship between IGBHE and other policies addressing age limits; staff agreed to provide written answers prior to returning the policies for a vote. No policies were adopted at the meeting.
