Summary
District leaders described a multi-session professional learning community (PLC) professional development program, including follow-up dates in October and December to support unit planning, data analysis and interventions.
Teaching and learning leaders told the board the district will follow up an initial PLC keynote with additional professional development sessions this fall to help teachers plan units, analyze data and design interventions.
Jared Oswald, director of teaching and learning, said the district’s kickoff featured presentations about PLC culture and mutual accountability and that the district will hold two follow-up days: Oct. 20, when an expert will guide teachers through planning a unit in the PLC process, and a December visit by Dr. Twaddell to follow up on implementation and reflection.
Oswald said the PLC work aims to ensure staff clearly identify learning goals, develop common assessments, gather evidence, analyze data and take action based on results. He described the work as an ongoing process rather than “one-and-done” professional development and thanked staff who handled material deliveries for the start of the year.
Oswald told the board teachers will receive time and templates to plan units and interventions and that the district will implement the templates with principals and staff before reporting back to the board on progress.
