The College Station ISD Board of Trustees approved multiple action items Aug. 7. Highlights:
- Laptops: Trustees approved the purchase of 1,300 HP laptop computers from Avanix using 2023 bond funds. Staff said a vendor discount reduced the cost by about $100 per device, representing roughly $130,000 in savings. The motion to approve was made by Doctor Payne and seconded by Mr. Benn; the board voted 7-0.
- Change order, A&M Consolidated High School roof: Trustees approved a change order to replace roof sections and raise mechanical and electrical components in an area that was intentionally excluded from the original bid. The contractor’s change order amount presented to the board was $345,400. Staff later noted a project credit of $145,576 will be applied on the back end, and the change order motion passed 7-0.
- Technology position title change: The board approved changing a vacant Programmer I position to a System/Network Administrator (title change) to reflect current district needs; motion carried 7-0.
- Donations: The board accepted a donation of Mylar dance flooring from Ellen Wilcox valued at approximately $15,000 for the College Station ISD dance program; motion carried 7-0.
All motions were recorded by voice vote with unanimous support where noted. Several items were described by staff and discussed briefly before each vote. Staff said bond funds will cover the laptop purchase and that the roof work is intended to complete a major project before school opens.
