Tehachapi reports completion of event-center fencing and $5.8 million taxiway rehabilitation; highlights summer events

Staff noted the project first appeared on the city's capital improvement list in 2009 and that the FAA approved key steps in 2014.
Council members and the city manager used the community-reporting portion of the meeting to highlight a busy summer of events. Claire Scott of the Chamber of Commerce thanked the council for partnership on the Mountain Festival, noting vendors, local bands and community participation. Jessica Garner, the farmers market manager, described cross-department collaboration (police, public works, community engagement and front-office staff) that supports the market and its vendors.
Other public comments and staff reports highlighted the Mountain Gallop run and a community event that drew about 500 attendees tied to an Alzheimer's reunion. The city manager also reported that a recent EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) event and local pilot flights provided airplane rides to roughly 65 Tehachapi youth. These events were presented as part of regular community engagement and were not tied to formal council decisions during the meeting.
