Friends of the Crestview Library report growth, new amenities and a scholarship program

Paul Farnsworth, president of the Friends of the Crestview Library, updated the City Council on June 9 about recent activity and fundraising.
Farnsworth said the volunteer group has grown to more than 30 members and held two successful book sales that raised funds to support library events, including Noel Night and staff training. The Friends purchased three four‑sided picnic tables that are in frequent use on library grounds, a popcorn and a snow‑cone machine for children’s events, and a display case to show patron‑checkout items. Farnsworth said an assembly event featuring a large “Death Star” set encouraged participants to browse related books and stimulated circulation.
The Friends have also underwritten a scholarship for an Okaloosa County resident to enroll in an online high‑school diploma program; the library staff assists in recruiting candidates for the program.
Farnsworth said the group will hold its next book sale in August at the Crestview Community Center and will continue to coordinate with Robert L. F. Sykes Library staff on fundraising and programming.
Council members thanked the Friends for the volunteer work and community support.
