Board renews lease for tower parcel near Bridge convenience center with Gilgirls LLC through 2028

The Craven County Board of Commissioners on July 21 approved a renegotiated land lease with Gilgirls LLC for a parcel adjacent to the Bridge convenience center that hosts a communications tower.
Steven Astor, solid-waste staff, said the county has leased the parcel to the company (formerly AnswerQuick) for more than 40 years and that the current owner, operating as Gilgirls LLC, remains in good standing. The previous lease automatically renewed July 30, 2025, at $2,400 per year.
The renegotiated lease approved by the board sets annual rent at $3,600 and a new expiration date of June 30, 2028. Astor told commissioners the county already owns most property on the side of Williams Road involved in airport plans and said only a very small parcel (about a tenth of an acre) might need acquisition for airport road tie-ins; that remark referred to a separate airport discussion earlier in the meeting.
Commissioners moved and seconded the lease approval; the motion carried by voice vote.
