East Lansing City Council on July 15 approved a package of ordinances, code corrections and program guidelines while moving several other items forward for later action.
The most prominent approvals included a unanimous vote to amend the zoning code to allow taller fences in properties zoned C (Community Facilities), and a unanimous vote on an omnibus set of corrections and clarifications to the city's zoning and sign chapters. The council also adopted a resolution affirming that the Planning Commission may adopt the city's 2024'2025 comprehensive-plan update, clearing that review to proceed at the commission level.
Not all measures passed unanimously. Council approved a cost-sharing agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation for rehabilitation of Hazlett Road (Saginaw Highway to Park Lake Road) on a 3'1 vote; Council Member Meadows requested outreach to MDOT for pedestrian-safety improvements along nearby Grand River.
