The Beech Grove City Schools Board of Trustees took multiple routine personnel and operational actions during its July 15 meeting and heard updates from district administrators on staffing, transportation, facilities and food service.
Personnel and handbooks
The board approved the submitted July personnel report and several staffing actions, including newly accepted offers for a high-school business position, a special-education teacher at Central, a fifth-grade teacher, a paraprofessional at Hornet Park and a media-center specialist. Administrators said they were finalizing onboarding for two bus drivers and a bus monitor and are awaiting Department of Defense approval for an assistant JROTC instructor whose paperwork the district has submitted.
The board approved the 2025–26 administrators, classified and transportation handbooks. Administrators said the transportation handbook was substantially rewritten — from roughly six or seven pages to more than forty — and will show redline changes in future reapprovals for transparency.
Contracts, budget and virtual program authorization
The board approved the recommended renewals of 2025–26 administrative contracts and authorized the administration to advertise the proposed 2026 budget; the administration said the Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) notices were expected around Aug. 1 and the district plans a budget hearing in September and adoption in October.
The board also authorized language changes to an educational products and services agreement with K12 Virtual and authorized school counsel Michelle Cooper to negotiate the contract amendments on the district’s behalf.
Facilities, transportation and food service
Administrators reported that the district took delivery of a new 78-passenger bus ordered more than a year earlier and expects delivery of a special-needs bus in August. They noted a deteriorating area in the transportation parking lot that must be addressed due to heavy wear from buses.
On facilities, administrators said roof replacements at the middle school are complete, work at the high school is underway, and a boiler and domestic hot-water project at the middle school is nearly finished; some software integration remains to reach full efficiency. Several parking lots show potholes and crumbling asphalt; current bids for full resurfacing are high, so administrators said they will patch where possible and revisit more extensive work in three to five years.
Food service director Clara reported financial improvements: year-to-date net profit rose to more than $336,000 this year, compared with $112,141 last year. Administrators said some kitchen equipment is aging and replacement costs (for example a warmer) can be on the order of $35,000 when needed.
Central 9 cooperative report
A board member reported on Central 9 (a regional cooperative) and said a State Board of Accounts audit found that the adult-education program had been drawing on accounts that had been spent and returning grant funds to the state, producing a deficit approaching $700,000 over several years. The representative said additional internal safeguards and oversight are now in place and the cooperative is reviewing options to address and repay the deficit.
