Burrillville approves $650,000 skate park plan, selects Artisan Skateparks and Casale Engineering

The Burrillville Town Council on July 9 approved a procurement plan to design and build a new skate park using Sourcewell and awarded the design/construction package and site engineering contracts funded from the town’s skateboard fund (Fund 1445).
DPW Director Jeffrey McCormick told the council the town previously committed a local match and secured a $600,000 grant for construction; the recommendation was to contract Artisan Skateparks Inc. with Pilla Design Studios to design and build the park for $600,000, and to contract Joe Casale Engineering for environmental assessment, site design and wetland permitting for $50,000. Councilors approved using the cooperative procurement strategy and the two agreements with funding taken from skateboard fund number 1445.
Council members and town staff discussed the fate of the existing 30-year-old skate features; staff recommended they are at or past useful life and are likely to be scrapped rather than reused. Town Manager Michael C. Wood and other councilors praised staff for assembling funding and noted the grant timeline (noted in meeting materials as closing in 2031) and the benefit of leveraging grant dollars to expand town recreation amenities. The motion passed by voice vote.
