Virginia Military Institute officials said the institute matriculated 498 first-year cadets on Aug. 17, including 86 women, and credited a spike in interest to new recruiting tools and outreach.
"We ended the cycle at 17,619," Admissions lead Joe told the Board of Visitors, saying inquiries rose 31% year over year. He added that submitted applications increased from 1,221 to 2,128 — "that's a 74% increase." The admissions office reported that 32% of the matriculants applied through the Common App and that applications from Virginia rose 55% while out-of-state applications rose 90%.
