The Douglas County School District Board of Trustees on June 26 approved an updated superintendent evaluation instrument and a revised job description aligned to that instrument, the board said. Officers and staff said the tools were developed after governance training and legal review and are intended to link board goals with superintendent performance measures.
Board officers explained they received a governance training led by an outside consultant, used the training tools as a starting point, and then aligned the evaluation rubric to the superintendent’s job description so that performance criteria match the district role. Trustees voted to approve the instrument and the job description during the meeting.
Trustees also completed an in‑room evaluation exercise and compiled scores during the meeting, but in the interest of Open Meeting Law transparency and to allow officers to reconcile totals and include goal‑setting and compensation context, the board postponed final public action on the numeric summative evaluation and any compensation decisions until the next regular meeting. Officers said they will present the compiled scores, the superintendent’s goals and proposed next steps at that later meeting; public comment at the June 26 meeting included questions about the timeline and how the instrument will be applied.
Motion and vote: Trustees voted unanimously to adopt the evaluation instrument and the job description as the basis for the superintendent’s annual evaluation. The board will complete the summative evaluation and any related actions at a future meeting once scores and final goal language are agreed.
