Liberty County commissioners approve routine agenda items, grants and contracts; multiple subdivision items tabled

At its June meeting, the Liberty County Commissioners Court approved a slate of grants, purchases and interlocal contracts and tabled several subdivision items pending further review.
The Liberty County Commissioners Court on Tuesday approved a series of routine agenda items including grant renewals, equipment donations, ARPA-funded invoices and interlocal agreements, while tabling multiple subdivision variance requests for further study.
The court voted to: accept the consent agenda (motion carried); renew a Texas Veterans Commission grant of $50,000 for veteran services; accept a donated trailer-mounted generator from CenterPoint Energy for emergency management; reappoint Gail Page to the Tri-County Behavioral Health Care Board of Trustees; approve a combined reimbursement payment of $154,019 tied to a Gulf Inland tax reinvestment zone (TIRZ) in Dayton (see separate article for full discussion); approve multiple ARPA-funded invoices and change orders for sanitary sewer projects in the City of Hardin; approve a $15,000 buyout incentive payment under GLO grant GLO01713639P (Libco-128 m); approve several engineering invoices for sewer improvements; authorize the purchase of four laptops ($3,730.76) from county clerk records management funds; approve purchase of 35 replacement poll pads ($38,500) and related grant application for Secretary of State funds; approve one-time and services costs for redaction software to protect voter-identifying information in public records (total initial cost $7,687.50 with recurring support); and approve a resolution to apply for Secretary of State grant funds for the voting-system purchases.
The court also approved an interlocal agreement to house Liberty County inmates in Burnett County at $85 per inmate per day and approved an amendment to a commercial real estate contract to move a closing date to Aug. 1, 2025, allowing partial possession for 30 days after closing. The court approved purchase and installation of a notices kiosk for the Cleveland Annex ($9,829.76), and authorized issuing an RFP for emergency ambulance services (RFP 25-11) and named a five-person evaluation team.
Several items were tabled for additional information or conflict-of-interest review: three preliminary plats and associated variance requests tied to the Sterling Traditions development (the court repeatedly tabled the variance requests and preliminary plats pending further engineering review and to address concerns about reviewer conflicts), and a request to allow Precinct 3 staff to pick up and deliver Houston Food Bank items (the court tabled that request to allow the county attorney and staff to review legal and fund-source implications).
No votes were taken in the executive session at the end of the meeting, where the court consulted with attorneys on potential financing for a proposed new county jail.
Votes recorded during open session were presented by motion; the court routinely called for aye/nay votes and recorded motions as carried when no nays were voiced.
