Commissioners approve grants, contracts and purchases; two subdivision items tabled

At its June meeting the Liberty County Commissioners Court approved a package of routine and programmatic items — including grant renewals, ARPA payments and election equipment purchases — and tabled multiple variance and preliminary-plat requests for the Sterling Traditions development.
The Liberty County Commissioners Court on Tuesday approved a series of routine and contract items ranging from veteran-services grant renewal to ARPA-funded sewer payments and election equipment purchases, and postponed several subdivision items linked to the Sterling Traditions preliminary plat.
Court members unanimously approved the consent agenda and an add-on payroll reimbursement of $11,724.83 for a district attorney’s employee. The court also approved a renewal of a Texas Veterans Commission grant for $50,000 for fiscal year 2025–26 to support county veteran services.
Other approvals included: acceptance of a donated trailer-mounted generator from CenterPoint Energy for emergency management; reappointment of Gail Page to the Tri-County Behavioral Health Care board; approval of a $154,019 reimbursement under an existing tax increment reinvestment zone (TIRZ) agreement (see separate article); and multiple ARPA-funded sanitation contracts and invoices for the City of Hardin sanitary sewer rehabilitation.
Elections and records items approved by the court included the purchase of 35 replacement poll pads for $38,500 and authorization to add special ballot-redaction software to the county’s VISTA SG election system (one-time license $2,487.50; professional services $5,200; annual support $2,125). The court also approved purchase of four replacement laptops for the county clerk’s office ($3,730.76) and installation of a duplicate public notices kiosk at the Cleveland Annex ($9,829.76).
Other financial actions the court approved were: change order #1 to LJA Engineering in the amount of $329,449 for the ARPA-funded City of Hardin sanitary sewer program; estimate payment #3 to King Solutions Services LLC for $250,139.16 (ARPA funds); and payment of two invoices totaling $11,880 for Ames sanitary sewer engineering services.
The court authorized staff to solicit requests for proposals for emergency ambulance service and appointed an evaluation team. It also approved an interlocal agreement to house Liberty County inmates in Burnett County at $85 per day, and approved an amendment to the county’s commercial real-estate purchase agreement for the Ford and Main Street property to extend the closing and allow 30 days partial possession after closing.
Two subdivision variance requests and three preliminary-plat items tied to Sterling Traditions were tabled pending further review and an upcoming workshop with independent engineers.
Finally, the court voted to file a grant application with the Texas Secretary of State to cover purchase and implementation of election equipment and related security software; the application requires a county match and a signed resolution.
