The El Centro City Council on Tuesday voted 5‑0 to approve a consent agenda item adjusting allocations of federal funding originally budgeted for certain public‑service providers. The adjustment follows receipt of a final allocation that was smaller than earlier estimates.
City staff explained the city’s initial estimated award was $526,655 but the final allocation came in at $502,738. Under the program rules, up to 15% of the allocation is eligible for public‑service uses; staff said they applied an equal pro‑rata reduction to previously proposed public‑service awards so total disbursements matched the final allocation.
Councilmember questions sought clarification about line items on the funding schedule. Staff said a proposed purchase of bus shelters was not selected and that the council instead approved improvements to Frasier Field. Staff also explained an asbestos‑testing/remediation line that appears alongside housing rehab items: asbestos inspections are included annually for housing‑rehab projects because of the age of the housing stock, staff said.
After clarifying staff answers, council moved and seconded the consent agenda change; the motion passed 5‑0.
