District CTE update highlights student awards and credentialing; staff push to expand skills competitions

Dr. Medina Jones and CTE teachers asked the board to help publicize student accomplishments and to support efforts to increase participation in skills competitions and credentialing. Staff said the district is pursuing partnerships (including with Piedmont Community College and other local partners) to expand offerings such as cosmetology, engineering and masonry as interest and capacity allow.
Board members asked whether the district will promote credentials and competitions more actively; staff said increased recruitment, community outreach and exposure to competitions should reduce student nervousness and raise participation. No board action was required; the presentation was informational and will be shared with families and posted through district outlets.
