The memorandum allows participating teachers to complete online professional development that does not interrupt instructional time, does not require additional student assessments and can be completed alongside the district’s Eureka Math curriculum. Teachers who participate are eligible for a $1,700 stipend and may earn CEUs or graduate credit.
District staff said interest currently stands at four teachers, and participation would be confirmed once fourth-grade teacher assignments for the 2025–26 school year are finalized. Staff emphasized the district is not receiving the $8 million grant directly; rather, NCDPI received grant funding to support fourth-grade math programs statewide, and this local opportunity is part of that broader grant-funded initiative.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the grant and teacher participation; staff reiterated there is no cost or obligation for the district to continue beyond the year if participants choose not to proceed after year one. The board approved the MOU without recorded opposition.
