The Village Board on June 9 adopted an ordinance authorizing staff and special attorneys to begin negotiations regarding the potential acquisition of property commonly known as 405 North Ardmore, owned by Hawthorne World Villa Park LP.
Village staff and the village attorney advised the board that the ordinance simply initiates the process and does not obligate the village to buy the property. Board members said there would be more discussion about negotiation strategy and any offer in executive session. The ordinance passed on a roll-call vote; several trustees spoke in favor of authorizing the attorneys to commence negotiations, while others voted no or abstained.
The trustee roll call recorded votes of Yes (Sabri, Cozart, Konstantos, Alfano), No (Kumar, Cordova) and an abstention by President Patrick. Following the vote, village attorneys were authorized to take initial steps to open negotiations; final acquisition would return to the board for approval if an offer is made.
Next steps: Special attorneys will commence preliminary negotiations and will report back to the board before any acquisition decision is finalized.
