Jason Wiseman, park planning and development manager for the Department of Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment, said the action is a financial housekeeping move to allow reimbursement of funds that were earmarked by Assemblymember McCarty. Wiseman said the appropriation is not new funding; it allows the city to process grant reimbursement that had been delayed by state and city administrative steps. The Southside Pool opening date was announced as June 14.
Councilmember Balaban acknowledged Assemblymember McCarty for securing $500,000 that helped bridge a funding gap for the pool, and thanked staff and neighborhood leaders for their work. Balaban moved the item and it was seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
