Saline County commissioners on May 27 opened a public hearing and then voted to approve submitting a Community Development Block Grant application to the Kansas Department of Commerce for repairs and improvements at the Senior Services building.
Senior Services Director Rosie Walters told the board the proposal is for rehabilitation and improvements including removing and installing 6‑inch pavement curbs to create approximately 5,300 square feet of new parking (about 18 spaces), removing and replacing about 3,600 square feet of sidewalks with 4‑inch ADA‑compliant sidewalks and ramps, installing lighting and pole bases, and replacing the building roof. The estimated project cost is $937,004.60; Walters said the county would provide about $225,000 in match from the capital improvement fund, donations and foundation grants.
Walters recommended opening, taking public comment and closing the hearing so staff could finalize the application. No members of the public offered comment during the hearing. The board moved, seconded and approved submission of the CDBG application; staff will return with formal grant documents and the resolution required to execute submission and accept the award if made.
Commissioners recorded no budget impact from holding the public hearing itself but noted the county match requirement if the grant is awarded.
