Saline County commissioners approve grant application, personnel appointments and routine items

Saline County commissioners on May 27 approved a slate of routine and substantive items including a grant application for senior services building rehabilitation, a temporary designation for subdivision plat review in the city of Salina and a four‑year reappointment of the county appraiser.
Commissioners voted unanimously to: approve the county’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application for rehabilitation and improvements at the Senior Services building; designate John Harvey, Salina city surveyor, as the interim subdivision plat reviewer for plats within Salina for up to three months while the county continues to recruit a county surveyor; reappoint the county appraiser by adopting Resolution 25‑24‑25; and adopt a Relay for Life proclamation designating May 31, 2025 as Relay for Life Day in Saline County. Several routine consent items — including tax roll adjustments, accounts payable, payroll and a change order related to Brookville Fire Station — were approved by motion on the consent agenda.
Votes were taken aloud; the meeting record shows each motion received a second and the board voiced approval (aye) with no recorded dissents. No public speakers opposed the CDBG application during the public hearing and the commissioners closed the hearing before voting to submit the application for state review.
The board also heard informational updates from several departments including the health department, the expo/noxious weed/farm operations and planning. No board action was taken on several longer discussions (fireworks regulation, county administrator recruitment, use of a county farm parcel) beyond direction to staff to return with resolutions or further information.
The meeting concluded after three separate executive‑session recesses; the board announced no action taken following each executive session and adjourned after a final roll call vote.
