City staff presented the latest draft of the Effingham 2050 comprehensive plan and outlined a multi‑step public‑review schedule. The draft is posted online; planning commission review is scheduled for Jan. 13, a city‑council workshop on the draft will be held Jan. 20, public open houses are planned Jan. 24 and Jan. 27, the planning commission will hold a public hearing Feb. 10, council discussion is scheduled Feb. 17, and adoption is targeted for March 3 if the process proceeds as planned.
Staff said the document is lengthy (about 200 pages in draft form) and encouraged public comment; a staff open house for maps and focused questions will be held Jan. 24 at City Hall. The plan incorporates feedback from focus groups, the steering committee, and the community survey. Councilors thanked staff and volunteers for their work and encouraged public participation in the upcoming meetings.
