Glenview board approves multiple road-resurfacing contracts and funding; will lead Waukegan/Eastlake intersection work

The Glenview Village Board on March 4 approved multiple contracts and funding resolutions for fiscal year 2025 road resurfacing and related infrastructure work, and discussed its role as lead agency in a state- and county-led intersection improvement project.
Under the consent agenda the board advanced an award to Peter Baker & Son Company of Lake Bluff for the FY2025 road resurfacing and MARS program, in the amount of $1,629,561 plus a $125,000 contingency (not to exceed $1,754,561), and an award to Campanella and Sons Inc. of Wadsworth for several local street improvement projects totaling $2,234,983 plus a $95,000 contingency (not to exceed $2,329,983). The consent list also included resolutions authorizing the use of Motor Fuel Tax funds for resurfacing and the Surface Transportation Program federal fund appropriations for the Sherman Road and Glenview Road projects.
Trustees approved the consent agenda as amended by roll call vote. The board separated discussion of the Waukegan Road and Eastlake intersection item for additional detail before finalizing related motions.
Public-works staff described the Waukegan/Lake Avenue and Eastlake intersection improvements as including an added right-turn lane on each leg, upgraded pedestrian crosswalks, replacement of the traffic signal and decorative/branding components at a corner near Lyon School. Staff emphasized that Waukegan Road is a state road and Eastlake is a county road; the village has agreed to serve as the lead agency for coordination with state and county partners and will fund some local enhancements to expedite work.
Board members questioned access changes near a nearby shopping center and Hackney’s restaurant. Staff said the study recommends converting some drives to right-in/right-out for safety, with a designated left-turn lane preserved for Hackney’s driveway; the plan will be finalized as part of engineering approvals and public-review steps.
The board’s approvals mean contractors can move toward scheduling and permitting; several projects still require final engineering and permitting before construction begins. Village officials also reminded residents that Village Hall will serve as an early-voting polling place March 17–31 with weekday and weekend hours posted on the village website.
What’s next: final engineering, applicable federal or state approvals for the state- and county-owned portions of the work, and typical permitting and construction scheduling. The board indicated it will continue to brief the public as those steps progress.
