Neighbors raise drainage and parking concerns as board gives first consideration to Glenview Road restaurant

Glenview — Trustees on June 3 considered a proposal to develop a 1,400‑square‑foot quick‑service restaurant at 1880 Glenview Road and heard objections from nearby property owners about drainage, parking and the approval process.

Director Brady outlined the site plan: a new restaurant building with six proposed parking stalls, a one‑way circulation pattern, an on‑site garbage enclosure and two curb cuts reconfigured to reduce turning conflicts. He said the Lehigh Avenue/Glenview Road streetscape will be reconstructed in 2027 and any broader drainage adjustments would be addressed then. The New Development Commission recommended approval 7–0 on May 14.

Attorney Brendan Appel, speaking for the property owner to the north, said his client’s written objections and a request to present an objectors petition were ignored at the commission. Appel said no expert had testified that a two‑foot gap between buildings would be sufficient for future tuck‑pointing or maintenance and added that his client would ‘file suit if this project is approved as is.’ Resident William Sites and others also questioned the adequacy of nearby parking and urged waiting for a parking study.

Trustees debated parking buffers, sidewalk separations and safety measures adjacent to the railroad tracks. Trustee Bland moved to approve the item and Trustee Cooper seconded; because this was first consideration the board took a voice vote and the motion carried. Staff said final engineering and permit reviews will follow.
