Board advances two neighborhood special‑service areas to fund curb and gutter work

On Oct. 21 the Glenview Board of Trustees advanced first consideration of two ordinances to establish Special Service Areas (SSAs) to finance curb and gutter and local roadway reconstruction.
SSA 112 would cover Pick Drive, Short Lane and Covert Road, a neighborhood developed in the 1950s scheduled for full reconstruction in 2026. Homeowners petitioned for curb and gutter and a March ballot showed 38 of 54 homes (about 70%) supported the improvements. Per village policy, the project will move forward under a 50/50 cost‑share program, with homeowners’ share spread over a 20‑year property‑tax assessment.
SSA 111 covers the Swainwood neighborhood, including Spruce Drive, Elm Court and Buttonwood Lane, to be completed in two phases (Phase 1 in 2026; Phase 2 in 2027). Homeowner balloting resulted in 57 votes in favor and 25 opposed (about 70% in favor). The SSAs are the first step under state statute to define boundaries and repayment through property tax bills; neighborhood open houses were scheduled for Oct. 23 (SSA 112) and Oct. 28 (SSA 111) pending board approval.
Trustees approved both items on omnibus motion.
